Ayane Muroya


Ayane Muroya, the only child of calligraphers Isshu and Shukin Muroya, grew up in Kyoto, Japan, and has made works using traditional Japanese calligraphy techniques and materials for as long as she can remember.

At the age of 13 she moved to the UK and has lived and studied in Bath, York and London, graduating from Central Saint Martins College in 2003.

She has exhibited her work in London, Liverpool, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and most recently in Noto, where she held a joint exhibition with her parents and two former colleagues from Saint Martins College.

Ayane was also recently commissioned to create labels for Plum wine and water bottles from the Noto region and has become Noto Town`s official representative.
